Neo Hutiri - PeleBox

When engineer Neo Hutiri was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) in 2014, he discovered that accessing treatment was almost as challenging as the illness itself.

Every month, he spent up to four hours waiting in clinic queues to collect medication.

Today, his solution to that problem, the Pelebox smart locker system, is helping patients collect chronic medication in as little as 36 seconds at more than 130 healthcare sites across South Africa and Namibia.

Building the technology was only part of the journey. Turning the idea into a scalable healthcare solution required business support, mentorship and funding.

Through programmes supported by the SAB Foundation, Hutiri received business development support, mentorship, grant funding and access to a network of entrepreneurs and industry experts.
